Gair Marking, DEV79 www.come.to/dev79 Gair has been making music for 12 years and has worked with a handful of bands as well as contributing music to various film soundtracks. His mission as dev79 is "to bring the darker electronic sounds of London and other European areas to the American East Coast." According to Gair "the focus of dev79 's talents mostly lie in the genres of dark trip hop and tech step-drum n' bass."  Two of Gair's tracks have made marks on mp3.com's hip hop charts. Both of these songs can be found on his new release - Exponential Edge, containing nine tracks of a dark hop nature. With a tech step EP and another dark hop album both nearly completed dev79 is currently looking for a wider and more beneficial avenue for their releases to be marketed. Gair Marking writes: Trip hop was born across the Atlantic and from trip hop the genre known as dark hop arose. The pioneer of which was Mick Harris' Scorn . Slow, ominous beats and sounds that can be at once depressing and groovy, are strong characteristics of dark hop. The sub genre, of drum n' bass, known as tech step was also of a European birthing. Some of the top producers today are the UK's Trace and Germany's Panacea . A mechanically uptempo beat with brutal basslines churning away, signify a tech step sound.  Traditionally music has been one of the only artistic genres where abstraction was least accepted. This has been becoming less and less so through the years, and hopefully the new millenium will continue to push the boundries open.  A meeting of the aggression and the fluidity. a flow of noise serendipitously surrounds as the break of the undenying drum is heard and the bass rumble churns. while the beats attempt their sexual coaxing, the other sounds find themselves amidst a swirl of convulsive anger. thrusting, the movement, the careful arrangement of members. and with a spurting and drawn halt, this comes to its end, ever acknowledging the purity.
