Lounge Records
The revival of new psychedelic rock in Philadelphia in the mid-90s was intimately connected with the fate of the Lounge label. Lounge promoted such exceptional Philly talents as the early Asteroid #4, the Azusa Plane, Transient Waves, Bent Leg Fatima and others in two important compilations: Sounds from Psychedelphia (1999), and Sounds from the Low Orbit Lounge (1997) co-produced with Low Orbit (aka WKDUs Eric Zimmerman). Lounge seems to have gone into hibernation... not quite sure if that has anything to do with Asteroid #4 leaving Philly.

The Low Orbit Lounge
Eric Zimmerman wouldn't
believe me but his label was my inspiration for organizing the Philadelphia
Ambient Consortium (Music and Noise). See, the Low Orbit label was just a thought, an intention, whose only existence was its tenuous connection to little artifacts like cds and events and conversations. Same with PAC(MaN). Eric put out a compilation album
with Lounge records entitled
"Sounds from the Philadelphia Low Orbit Lounge" despite the fact that there
was no Low Orbit Lounge outside of Eric's mind. The Consortium only exists
in my mind too despite the fact that I organize concerts and put together
compilation albums (please be patient while I work on the comp!). These names, "Low Orbit Lounge", "PAC(MaN)",
are just frames for our good intentions. "Sounds from the Philadelphia
Low Orbit Lounge" is a terrific collection of local droner, space rock,
and psychedelic creativity. The compilation includes tracks by Asteroid
#4, the Azusa Plane, Lenola, Flowchart and others. Check it out. What's
Eric doing now? The man is a recluse, and the Low Orbit Lounge comp was
his one and only contribution to the catalog. I think if you really need
to find him you should look for him at the Astrocade where he is one of
the resident savants.
"Sounds from the Philadelphia
Low Orbit Lounge" is a project from two new record labels: Low Orbit
and Lounge. Informed by My Bloody Valentine, Spacemen 3, and early Pink
Floyd, the multi-artist compilation creates a new sound of Philadelphia
where inspiration and innovation run wild. With tracks by the Asteroid
#4, Lenola, Photon Band, Dagobah System and Cathode Ray, it's a planetarium
of the local space rock scene. - Philadelphia Weekly
