Steven Curtin has been making electronic music for over twenty years, building and playing analog and digital synthesizers and guitars. This musical activity has lately been focused on the ethno-ambient experimental end of the spectrum, and frequently makes use of just intonation and other alternative tunings. He contructed his first modular analog synthesizer in 1979, restored it in 1995 and has since been expanding it with modules from Wiard, PAiA, and custom modules. These modules are controlled and animated with a digital pattern generator and sequencer built out of programmable logic (FPGA). His live performances visit some of the musical spaces that have been frequented using this system. Since his return to analog based instruments, he has performed at the Synthetic Pleasure performance series in New Jersey and at Gate to Moonbase Alpha in Philadelphia.

Steven received an MFA in Electronic Music and the Recording Media in 1989 from the Mills College Center for Contemporary Music. After grad school he worked in the electronic music instrument field as a programmer for Opcode Systems, Passport Designs, Studer-EdiTech and Ensoniq Corporation. He has since been working in the communications field as a computer engineer at the Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group, now known as Agere Systems. Much of the technology he works with during the day eventually finds its way into his basement studio/lab for musical uses off-hours.
